MANMOHANOMICS Versus MODIECONOMICS : BOTH SIDES OF SAME COIN

MANMOHANOMICS EXPOSED BY DINAMANI DAILY :2011

The great economist who opened the floodgates for corporate socialism is putting up an innocent face while behind the curtains favoring corporate and acting before public domain as if he is paragon of virtue to be kept beyond the purview of Lokpal. The petroleum price hike and the arguments advanced under Manmohanomics are punctured by Dinamani Tamil daily of 23.06.2011 in its center-page article by P.S.M.Rao.

Argument: Internationally crude oil prices have shot up and hence it is inevitable to raise petroleum product prices in India… so says Manmohanomics.

Expose : Current prices of crude per barrel is around 94 dollars. If we take up the prices from last month average price would be 100 dollars per barrel. Exchange rate of dollar is Rs 44.9. On average a barrel costs Rs 4,490. One barrel contains 159.99 liters. So the price of crude oil per liter will be Rs 28.

In petrol production crude oil is used 90 percent and remaining 10 percent of substances available in India. So per liter production cost of Petrol wont exceed Rs 30.

In 2006-2007 the cost of refining and producing petrol was Rs 19.47. In 2007-2008 it was Rs.24.71 and for 2008-2009 it was Rs26.11 only. In 2009-2010 it was Rs 21.75 only. If the Government of India had kept people as priority or cared for consumers more than corporate sector it could have sold petrol within Rs 30 or around Rs 30 with reasonable tax. So the argument that companies had to hike petrol prices due to international prices of crude rising is a myth.

Argument : The necessity to hike price is due to mounting losses of petroleum companies. In last year the losses for petroleum companies was Rs.78,000 crore and in current year it stood at Rs 1,80,208 crore.

Expose : Petroleum companies are not incurring losses at all. If you look at their yearly financial statements it will reveal all were earning profits. Rangarajan Committee too had pointed out this true state of affairs.  The difference between government rates and import price is shown as loss.  If these companies had incurred loss how come between 2006-2010 in four years petroleum companies could have shown Rs 1,26,888 crore of profit. By statistical jugglery a false picture is created to show as if petroleum companies are incurring losses and hence price rice is inevitable.

If only so-called Left parties which frequently resort to road-roko or bandh over petrol/diesel/gas price hike have explained like Dinamani, Indian people would have understood the dirty tricks of Manomohanomics, but they too failed the people.

Argument : Mounting subsidies led to inevitable price hike.

Expose : In between 2006-2007 to 2009-2010 the subsidy given by Government of India for petroleum products stands at Rs.23,325 crore. But in same period by way of taxes on petroleum products GOI had earned Rs 4,10,842 crore. If we calculate this the subsidy would be only 5.67 percent in profits made by GOI. If we include State taxes of Rs 2,63,766 crore then the subsidy will be only meager 3.45 percent of the profits made by governments.
By hiding the truth the Government of India will be telling the country that it incurs Rs 18.19 loss in diesel per liter given through public distribution system and Rs 29.69 in per liter of kerosene, and Rs 329.73 per cylinder of gas. By repeatedly drum beating these statistics, Government wants to hike the prices of these products and crush the consumer. Tax the corporate and not common man, which economist will teach basic democratic principle to Dr.Manmohan Singh.

Dinamani Tamil daily writes as eye-opener, turban covered ears of Prime Minister may not hear people’s woes at least Tamil knowing Home Minister P.Chidambaram or Finance Minister’s Minister of State Palani Manniccam must translate Dinamani and advice the Government that Manmohanomics must stop helping corporate to loot the National Exchequer.

Hygienic Fish Markets : Fashion of the Day

Nellore Fish Market, Andhra Pradesh, India

Hygienic Fish Markets : Fashion of the Day

The wind of globalization is introducing new concepts like air-conditioned vegetable and fish markets by private parties providing jobs to entrepreneurial youth. At the same time we have Pondicherry’s over crowded   Main market, a place you have to plough your way in a stream of sweat and foul smell. Ever increasing garbage accumulation poses problems for municipal sanitary workers who toil tirelessly to keep market surroundings clean. The lorries that bring the daily requirements for market and small vehicles that bring fish struggle to catch space with consumers who in a haste to park as they please in the entrances of the market. This is a scene of chaos with increase in population. In Pondicherry region we have fish markets in Pondicherry, Muthialpet, Ariyankuppam, Nellithoppu, Madukarai and Villiyanur and temporary markets have sprung up in roadsides at many sub urban places. Nowadays people are looking for hygiene in every aspect of life and consumer awareness is at its peak. Further the perishable products must be sold in haste thereby fish vendors loose their revenue. The setting up of cost price shops by private parties and cooperative institutions too jumping into that bandwagon not to be left behind is a telling tale of our times. Vegetable stalls that offer fresh vegetables in air-conditioned surroundings have cropped up. Chickens and Mutton are sold in shops making it easy for people to buy at various places. But in spite of all this the fish market, vegetable market, flower market and small shops that sell from provisions to brooms are within a limited space of the main market restricted by various constraints making it impossible to expand.

In such scenario a new Air Conditioned Fish for You shop set by an enterprising young educated youth K.Ponnambalam of Vanarapet, that has come up at the beginning of the Mahatma Gandhi Road near Railway station is refreshing experiment breaking from past.

A student from nearby Veerampattinam fisher-men village of Pondicherry, P.Saravanane who is the 4 th son of a traditional fisherman, doing his second year in doctorate in fish pathology at the Stirling University of Scotland U.K having completed his M.FSc. (Master of Fisheries Science) at Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Cochin on his visit to his home felt that fish markets here must be improved to make it places of hygiene in order to attract better prices for fish apart from consumer convenience and comfort of buying in a cleaner environment.

To wash sands and filth in the fish catches that comes to market, P.Saravanane suggests setting up of a one-ton capacity of filtering steel tank at the entrance of the market. Immediately after washing fresh icing must be done for the preservation. The fish market should be completely closed and centrally air conditioned for maintaining low temperature, which can reduce the quick spoilage of fish. Hygienic and decent dressing for the fish vendors encouraged. Separate cabins with a washable fish-displaying table should be constructed for selling the fish and be provided with a clear drainage channel, which eventually leads to a common drainage canal. Display table must have fiberglass doors so that fishes can be displayed on an ice layer in the glass cabinet. Each cabin must be given separate pipe connections for easy and quick washing of cabin before and after selling. A hygienic and eco-friendly bag for packing the fish be introduced. There should be a high capacity and quality flake ice machine inside the market for preserving the fish and also for the display unit. Definite control measures should be taken for fly and other insects. Its also wise to have a cold storage room with two different temperature like 4°c and -20°c with clear racks and boxes for short time and long time storage of fish respectively. The market should also be provided with two doors each one for entry and exit. A separate fish cleaning room should be constructed with same facility like fish selling area with a washable table with the provision of tap water pipe connection for each fish dresser. Use of clean stainless steel knife and other fish cutting instruments be encouraged. There should be an exit in the fish dressing room so that the customers can directly exit the market, says P.Saravanane who wants to see his hometown and its markets improve to reach the western standards at least stage by stage.

Fish lovers are braving all ordeals in fish markets to buy their choice and scared housewives wait for street vendors to bring fish to their doors. Let us make their life not only less miserable but make it pleasant to both sellers and buyers. Let Fish woman who carry head-loads of fish and are frowned upon regain their self respect and dignity in pursuing their marketing with changing needs of our times. Fish is wealth and not filth that comes to markets. Let planners plan ultra modern fish markets, while private stalls come up every where to cater the needs of growing population conscious of cleaner environment.

PETROL POLICIES OF UPA GOVERNMENT COMDEMNED

BOUQUETS FOR CORPORATE: BRICK BATS FOR CONSUMERS

Indian commoner is not aware of petrol prices in other countries. Out of data available for 157 countries, those countries which produce petrol grouped under Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries have the lowest price. These countries have huge reserves so petrol is cheaper there. In Indian Rupee, the price of per litre petrol in Venezuela would be Rs.1.14. Iran sells to people at Rs.4.8 per litre.
Even in USA the price of petrol per litre is Rs 42.82 only even after taxes. Even a simple comparison of retail prices in different countries by converting them to Indian Rupee reveals in India petrol is more expensive than 98 countries.
The price in dollars as on January 2011 from the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit [GIZ], IMF, BPCL is as follows: China sells petrol at $ 1.95 and diesel at $ 1.83 whereas India sold petrol at $3.95 and diesel at $ 2.46. UK sold petrol for $ 1.85 and diesel for $ 1.91. Brazil sold petrol for $ 1.70 and diesel for $ 1.23. Japan sold petrol for $ 1.28 and diesel for $ 1.09.Russia sold petrol for $ 1.26 and diesel for $ 1.08. USA sold petrol for $ 0.76 and diesel for $ 0.84 .All these were in January 2011. Saudi Arabia sold petrol at $ 0.23 dollars and diesel at $ 0.10 dollars. Venezuela sold at $ 0.03 and diesel at $ 0.01.
The great economist Manmohan Singh squeezes the people with hiking petrol/diesel prices now and then. He shirks his responsibility. He throws the governance to winds by saying it is for Oil companies to decide hike. Former Bangla Congress Minister currently INC Minister in UPA Pranab Mukerjee shifts responsibility on states to reduce taxes.
Comptroller and Auditor General of India found fault with Government of India for allowing Reliance Industries Limited to inflate its capital expenditure claims for the D6 field in Krishna-Godavari Basin. By hiking capital expenditure RIL ensured that Government’s share in production of gas gets reduced. Who benefited, why government should loose revenue and fatten profits of RIL, the UPA government won’t open the skeletons hidden in its cupboard. As the Stolen Property Recovery Initiative of World Bank indicates in India only Former Congress Minister Sukhram had stolen country’s wealth, and no one else. In India as media reports say only A.Raja looted nation’s wealth and Mr.Murli Deora is Mr.Clean.
There is a condition in the contract with Government. The fields where no oil discoveries were made should be surrendered to the Government. RIL did not surrender. Dravida Peravai urges Government of India to redeem those fields and give them on life-term lease to all the fishing villages of Godavari-Krishna coast including Yenam fishermen. Let them have rights over fields in seas as farmers have rights over land in seas.
As per CAG, the Oil Ministry allowed Cairn India to expand the contract area by 1600 square kilo meters. In land you acquire the land of farmers but in seas you allow SEA_GRAB for 1600 square kilometers, Mr.Prime Minister, step down, Let atleast Rahul Gandhi try governance anf falter in his steps. You pretend to be a saint, but your actions are satanic.

BRING BACK BLACK MONEY TO INTERLINK INDIAN RIVERS

Farmers have become a forgotten tribe in our corporate democracy. The dream to interlink Indian rivers for which then President of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam paid lip service in a Republic Day speech had been laid to rest by recent Supreme Court order, reported in The Times of India, reproduced in verbatim below :
Supreme Court had expressed inability to direct the Government of India to pump in 5 lakh crore this year to start the river interlink project.
According to the Stolen Asset Recovery initiative of the World Bank and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime published in 2011, titled Puppet Masters reminds us that Indian rulers are mere puppets and puppeteers are multi-national companies and other mafias.
If only people with conscience can ask, why our stolen assets could not be brought back to finance the river inter-link project it would awaken the rulers from slumber and lethargy. Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam who should have raised repeatedly the inter-link of rivers conveniently forgot once out of power.
Our rivers are diverted by China. Our Himalayan glaciers are melting year after year. North India faces flood fury without fail in every year. Our rivers are emptying in our seas. Farmers have no water left for agriculture.
As per 2003 statistics of World Commission of Dams China tops with 22,000 dams. America follows with 6575 dams, India has 4291 dams and tiny Japan is with 2675 dams. These dams not only cater to agricultural needs but also generate power.
The head waters of most of the major rivers of Asia are in Tibet, so damming them could have implications downstream, said Aviva Imhof, campaign director of International Rivers Org.
Our Brahmaputra starts in South West Tibet as Yarlung Tsango River and flows through Southern Tibet and crosses through Himalayas and reaches our Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh assuming the name Dihang. From South West of Assam valley it is known as Brahmaputra. It has Amouchu, Raidak, Sankosh, Nans, Bhareli, Dibang, Luhit, Burhiding, Dihing, Kameng, Manas, Yamuna, Teesta, Rangeet, Lachung, Darla, Jaldhaka as its tributaries. This Brahmaputra is diverted within Chinese territory as picture depicts. But in spite of that Arunachal Pradesh faces flood fury every year.
To manage the floods in Arunachal Pradesh, India prepared a plan and sought assistance from Asian Development Bank. China raised objections in June 2009 after Asian Development Bank’s Board of Directors and member countries endorsed a Country partnership strategy for 2009-2012 which included Arunachal project. The bank withdrew the project. Our Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, sudden lobbyist of Koodankulam project did not raise any voice even over the Chinese intervention in flood management of Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Our river waters should not be used by our farmers, and Indian rulers have put river interlink project in cold storage, only to redeem it on the day corporate farming catches in India. There cannot be any other reason to be debating beyond 4 decades river inter linking, and the failure of which results in flood furies year after year.
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam being a scientist will proudly proclaim that astronomers of California Institute of Technology  have discovered a mass of water vapour that is 140 trillion times that all of the water in the worlds oceans combined and 100000 times more massive than the Sun, according to Astrophysical Journal Letters.
May be our farmers can take bullock carts and women can carry mud pots to the Quasar APM 08279+5255, which harbours a black hole 20 billion times more massive than the Sun and produces as much energy as thousand trillion Suns.
After the Supreme Court observation that 5 lakh crore could not be spent to inter-link rivers Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam the man who in office supported this project must have spoken, why he remained silent and mouth shut in this matter while openly advocating Koodankulam project, people have right to question his credentials.
The Drivers and Dynamics of Illicit Financial Flows from India: 1948-2008 published by Global Financial Integrity states the total value of illicit assets held abroad represents 72% of India’s underground economy. Estimated around $213 million in 2008 it would be around $ 462 million now.
If this or partial amount of this had been brought back Supreme Court need not have expressed inability to direct the Government of India to cough up 5 lakh crore for interlinking of rivers.
As one who through by 4 decade friend Comrade George Fernandes who got River interlink project inducted into the Election manifesto of National Democratic Alliance and one who first knocked the Supreme Court, which even the Times of India news mentions, I would appeal to great personalities like Anna Hazare, Sri Sri, Ramdev, and our APJ.Abdul Kalam to force the Government to start the river interlink project by bringing back hoarded black money equalivent to two 2G loot to provide water to our farmers and boost our agrarian economy.
